Spam and Cybercrime Rising

Have you ever wondered about the amount of cybercrime that happens on Facebook every day? Statistics points out that somewhere around 4 million Facebook users combat some sort of  spam on a daily basis, and about 20% of all Facebook users were exposed to malware through the social networking site.  One big concern of my teenage niece and her friends is how easy it is for someone to hack into their Facebook accounts and change everything or make bogus posts as if they were them.  Facebook handles about 600,000 account hijacks each day.  Many of them are carried out by people users have shared their passwords with.

Does this all seem like a mysterious and inescapable result to you?  Fortunately there are settings you can tweak to protect yourself against cyber crimes. The bad news is, if those crimes are perpetrated via Facebook, it’s hard to track them down or to defend against them because Facebook is still a bit of a privacy issue in itself.  Here is an infographic about the issue of Facebook spam and cybercrime:
